It’s scary, but it’s almost upon us – the end of 2013. So much has happened and so much has gone on in the heady world of design. However, it’s now time to look forward to the prospects of a new year and all the events that the first half of 2014 will bring. Read on for details of key events.
is one of the first major design shows of the year and takes place at the NEC in Birmingham from 19 - 22 January 2014
This show provides an opportunity for anyone in the design industry – including designers, architects, retailers and contractors – to take a look at the trends and products to expect to hit the market during the year ahead. There’s due to be more than 600 exhibitors from all over the world at the event including big brands, up and coming designers and international taste-makers and thought-leader. Not one to be missed.
Between 4 - 6 February 2014
at the Business Design Centre in London the 2014 Surface Design Show
will take place. This show plays host to many interactive features which detail what to expect interior design in 2014. The Surface Design Awards – which take place at the show - concentrate on progressive design from the UK and around the world and are judged by a panel of architects and designers. This year’s finalists include works from America, China and Japan.
The Interiors Design Summit
will take place on 11 March 2014
at the Hilton London Wembley
hotel, but if you want to go then you’ll have to book in quickly because there are only a limited number of places available. The summit is aimed at professional purchasers from the design world who are looking for products to help them complete on-going and future projects.
is taking place at the Excel in London from 28 April – 1 May 2014
. With over 32,000 people set to visit the exhibition over the four day event it is the largest hospitality industry exhibition in the UK.
There will be all kinds of professionals at this anticipated event from many areas of the industry including, interiors, food and drink, spa, technology and tableware.
Grand Designs Live
– based on the hit channel 4 show - is back at London’s Excel arena from 3 – 11 May 2014
. The October 2013 show at the NEC in Birmingham was the “biggest and best show to date” and the 2014 event is set to top it with over 500 exhibitors and hundreds of top brands. If you book early you can even get a 2 for 1

New Designers Part 1 & 2
– part 1 runs from 25 - 28 June 2014
and part 2 from 2 - 5 July 2014.
This fantastic event
offers a great opportunity for visitors to meet up-and-coming designers face-to-face and to be the first to get their hands their products for your store, home or business. The show has been running annually for 28 years from London’s Business Design Centre and last year was the biggest ever event with over 18,000 people in attendance.
Part one of the event involves textiles, fashion, accessories, applied arts e.g. glass and ceramics – and jewelry and precious metalwork. Part two focusses furniture and product design, visual communications (graphic design and illustration), as well as architecture and interior design.
