Embrace Your Heritage with Vintage Accessories

Posted by Mark Godsell-Fletcher on

At Eat Sleep Live we love history, we love to discover the story behind a piece of wood or a tin found behind some old bookshelves.  Our past is with us every day, yet we are still fascinated by it and continuously excited to know more.  You often hear of stories about homes that are described as time warps, they have not moved with the times and their fixtures, fittings, furniture and accessories are all from that period as though the owners had decided that this was their perfect home and it should never change.  The majority of us live to change our homes often, we love to decorate, experiment with a variety of colours and textures as well as changing the functionality of spaces as our lifestyle dictates.  Even though we are re-designing our interiors it doesn't mean we need to forget our past. One of my favourite key trends at the moment is our passion for vintage accessories.  One off pieces that add a new dimension to our room design as well as giving the feeling of home.  I have a beautiful old set of drawers in my home office sat next to a Ikea Billy bookcase, yet these two pieces of furniture of different eras and styles seem to seamlessly compliment each other as though they were meant to be.  And I am not the only one, our desire for vintage pieces keeps increasing, check out eBay for some great finds, but I have put together a 'must have' collection of vintage accessories. I always remember as a child walking into a sweet shop and seeing the jars filled with sweets like a rainbow on the shelves.  They captivated me not just with their colour but the jars themselves were always so inviting.  There are some fantastic 'vintage' sweet shops around the country that still serve their sweets this way, they always seem to taste nicer too!  Anyway why not create your own sweet shelf, filled with your favourites and served in a beautiful glass jar such as this.
