Woman talking to mirrorEveryone’s familiar with the famous line "mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest one of all?" but have you ever actually asked your mirror such a question? In fact have you ever asked your mirror anything at all? The likelihood is no, because who talks to a mirror? Well actually, you probably quite often find yourself criticising the image that your mirror shows to you, right? It is exactly this reason that makes days like National Compliment Your Mirror Day essential as it’s the one day of the year that reflects your true beauty. July the 3rd is National Compliment Your Mirror Day every year but it’s a celebration that many people aren’t aware of. The true origins of the day are unknown but it’s thought to be big in America as a gear up towards their 4th of July celebrations. People in general are known for being extremely self-deprecating and as the 4th July is a day for letting loose at celebrations and parties it’s essential to feel great about the way that you look. It’s not only Americans who celebrate this day though, it’s something that’s been adopted in many Western countries where people take their appearance extremely seriously but often focus solely on the negative things that they can see in their reflection. National Compliment Your Mirror Day is intended to encourage you to look at your reflection in a new light and make an effort to highlight at least one positive thing about your appearance by putting aside any insecurities – regardless of what they are – for just one day. People spend so much time looking into mirrors and other reflective surfaces every day to make sure their hair and make-up is exactly where it should be, ready to perform the emergency touch-ups if anything’s gone astray. When you’re younger you tend to be pretty fond of your mirror but as you get older the reflection staring back at you continues to change and can sometimes become unrecognisable. Compliment Your Mirror Day is all about taking a moment to acknowledge how you’ve changed and to accept each and every imperfection as part of your life story. Every other day of the year you spend each and every moment that you have to look in a mirror disliking what you see so why not take the chance to compliment yourself and your mirror this July the 3rd and see whether the compliment is returned – you can be pretty sure it will be. Eat Sleep Live lovingly create a variety of mirrors from reclaimed wood that’s between 100 and 200 years old. The mirrors that you have in your home make a huge difference to the way you view yourself so if you’re going to love what you see then it’s essential to love your mirror too.
